Who and why

Recolight – the driving force

Recolight is the inspiration behind the Big Light Project, which includes interesting and interactive teaching resources, a fantastic competition and this dazzling website, which you can explore to find out more!

A not-for-profit organisation, Recolight is a producer-led compliance scheme which specialises in the recycling of Gas Discharge Lamps (GDLs).  This means that Recolight puts the processes in place to ensure the safe and easy disposal of fluorescent and mercury lamps, the most popular being Compact Fluorescent Lamps (or CFLs), which are mainly used in our homes.

Recolight was established by the UK lamp producers who account for a significant share of the UK market.  Their members are producers and importers of Waste an Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) who put new lamps on the UK market for the first time and are therefore obliged to comply with the Waste an Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations. To find out more visit www.recolight.co.uk.

Recolight’s Big Light Project is one of a number of initiatives designed to heighten awareness of lighting efficiency and recycling issues with teachers, young people, families and friends.

We all have a responsibility to learn and change

The Government has been encouraging us all to work towards a greener environment.  It is in our global interests to pull together to make a change.

By recycling and being more aware of the need for better, more efficient lighting in our homes, schools and offices, we can make a huge impact

Switch on to discovering light.

If everyone in the UK installed just three energy saving light bulbs in their home, we could save enough energy to power all the UK’s street lighting for a whole year
